The October and November lunch seminars hosted by the Materials Science and Engineering PhD program featured four current students.

At the October meeting, Grayson Huldin (Chemistry and Biochemistry) and Angela Abarca Perez (Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences) each presented a short overview of an online tool they have found useful in their graduate studies. Grayson demonstrated the use of Zotero for organizing publication references, and Angie showed how Notion can be used as a central space for keeping track of both personal and work-related activities.

At the November meeting, Sara Bey (Physics and Astronomy) and Frances Zengotita (Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences), each gave an update of their graduate research. Sara presented her work on “Fabrication and electrical characterization of amorphous GeTe thin film switching devices for next generation memory applications.” The topic of Frances’ research is the “Influence of iron oxide nanoparticle crystallite size on the sorption and reduction of plutonium.” An engaging question and answer session followed each presentation.

The monthly gatherings, posted on the MSE website, are open to current students in the MSE PhD program and those who would like to learn more. A recap of the program from the previous academic year is available here.
